South Africa

South Africa is one of the most diverse and enchanting countries in the world. Exotic combinations of landscapes, people, history and culture offer the traveller a unique and inspiring experience. Throw in wildlife parks such as the Addo Elephant National Park, eight World Heritage Sites, beautiful natural scenery and you have a great adventure waiting to happen.

Having nearly 3000km of beautiful coastline washed by the Indian Ocean and the Atlantic, volunteers can join the marine conservation teams helping to protect this amazing environment. Bordered in the north by Namibia, Botswana and Zimbabwe, South Africa is a great place for gap year travel, career breaks or short term volunteering with the country having an abundance of adventure, community and wildlife trips.

During the last decade tourism has surged with an exciting sector of emerging new game reserves. Shumba Experience’s volunteer projects coupled with Cape Town being the voted the Number 1 Destination at the 2011 Travellers Choice awards make South Africa a premier gap year destination!
